Chris Christie Writes School Excuse Note For Boy At Town Hall

By ANGELA DELLI SANTI 05/ 2/12 03:26 PM ET AP

GARFIELD, N.J. -- New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie received an unusual request at a town hall meeting Wednesday.

Eleven-year-old Peter Schwartz asked the governor for a note excusing him from school.

Christie pulled out a pen, flipped over a "reserved seating" sign, scribbled a note to the boy's 6th grade teacher and then signed his name.

Christie said he asked that the Point Pleasant Beach student be excused "because you were with me."

When Christie called on the boy during the question-and-answer portion of an event in Garfield, the boy asked what he should do about being bullied by someone in authority.

The governor told Peter to enlist his parents' support and tell the bully's boss.

If that doesn't work, Christie suggested a call from the state education commissioner might.

I think the story should be about the kid, not the governor.

Thats a pretty brave 12 year old to go to the meeting and ask that question.

Funny thing is Libs think that their the only people qualified to run this country correctly when in fact what few people they have in positions of authority do their damnest to destory this once great country. What a shame.

LOL. Great response. Just shows how well our system of public education is working. It'll work even better when we get private school vouchers and average class size balloons above 40 students.

That wouldn't be a legit excuse at my school. It needs to be medically related. Nothing like the guy in charge of education breaking the rules. Great leadership!

It does not matter one bit what he would have done people like you would find fault. If I were the governer and wrote that excuse I would dare you not to accept it. You would be looking for a new job before the day was over, The kid was being bullied evidently by someone in authority and I bet Christe follows up on this to see just what this was all about. Are you worried that someone might be looking at just whom that person might be.

"The Commissioner of Education is the chief executive school officer of New Jersey and supervises all public schools. He or she is also a member of the Governor's cabinet, appointed by the Governor... " From your description, the governor is in charge of this guy. Thanks for confirming that.

Idiot. He complains about schools and teachers and then gives the boy a note telling him it is okay to miss school as long as he is there to here his nonsense. Can't wait to vote this loudmouth, low class bully out of office.

FFS. Were this The O'Bamabot, you would be fawning over him and over the kid. At least keep up the pretense of integrity. This kid got a break from the long slow death of of the mind, that is Public Education in the United States.
