Eva Longoria: 'Marco Rubio Has Been Coming Up With Some Silly Stuff'

Eva Longoria Bashes GOP Politician

Fresh off an op-ed in which she blasted Mitt Romney as "on the wrong side of every issue that pertains to Latinos," Eva Longoria has her eyes set on a new target: Marco Rubio.

Longoria, who serves as a co-chair of Barack Obama's campaign, told The Hollywood Reporter the Republican senator from Florida "has been coming up with some silly stuff that we really have to sort through."

"I'm a political news junkie and all of that is discouraging," she continued at the wrap party for ABC's "Desperate Housewives." "That's why it's doubly important to me to make sure that the person who best represents America and reflects my values is elected. That’s Obama."

Rubio had recently suggested an alternative to the D.R.E.A.M. Act which would not allow a path to citizenship. Rubio's version would allow undocumented young people to remain in the country if they maintained a clean criminal record and joined the military and/or attended college. The Democrats' original version of the bill provided a path to citizenship for children who were brought to America illegally but finished college.

Longoria's comments indicate a focus on Rubio that perhaps stems from the fact that the senator is widely viewed as an attractive running mate for Romney. Romney had called for an alternative to the D.R.E.A.M. Act and praised Rubio's (as yet undrafted) proposal, but stopped short of endorsing it.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said he did not think the bill would pass the House, though he "found it of interest."

Longoria deflected criticism that celebrities should stick to entertaining. "I always scoff at that, because I'm an American first and foremost and I'm very civically engaged," she said. "And everybody should be responsible Americans and should be understanding the issues and educating themselves on what's happening in our country -- the greatest country in the world."
