'The Secret Circle': Chris Zylka On 'Prom,' Nick's Return & His Dream 'Vampire Diaries' Crossover Episode

Posted: Updated:
"Secret Circle" star Chris Zylka previews tonight's episode and the shocking season finale.

Fans of "Secret Circle" (Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW) were shocked when Nick (Louis Hunter) seemingly returned from the dead in last week's episode. But Chris Zylka, who plays Nick’s broody older brother Jake, couldn't be more excited about his resurrection. After all, he never had a chance to film with his little brother since Nick was killed by Charles in the fifth episode.

"Nick is back in a crazy way, and he's much more powerful now," Zylka told HuffPost TV. "He's going to play a really big role in the next couple of episodes, especially for Jake. They didn't really have the best relationship, so you're definitely going to see them go on quite the journey."

However, Nick's return is still clouded in mystery. "Is he back from the dead? Is he a ghost? Did we go back in time? Who knows! Well, we know," said Zylka with a laugh.

While "The Secret Circle" star can't tell us how Nick made it to prom night, he does reveal that the two brothers will share a heart-felt moment. "There's going to be a lot of emotion, which is something that you haven't really seen from either one of them so far," said Zylka. "They're both really guarded and secretive, so it will be interesting to see if they open up to one another. Obviously, they have a lot to talk about. A lot of stuff went down while Nick was dead."

Below, Zylka talks more about Nick's return, his hopes for a crossover with "The Vampire Diaries" and more!

In a show like "The Secret Circle," is it safe to assume that no one ever stays dead?
The fans get so attached to certain characters, and then sometimes, they have to go away for a little while. [Laughs.] But you can always bring them back! That's the nice thing about supernatural shows.

It sounds great for job security.
Or it's really bad because we could be killed at any time!

But then you'll get a call saying that they need you on set in a few weeks.
[Laughs.] Yeah, right? Louie [Hunter] got a nice vacation.

In this week's episode, everyone is on the hunt for the last crystal, which is somewhere in the high school. It kind of reminds me of the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" episode where Buffy finds out that the Hellmouth is underneath Sunnydale High School.
That's amazing! I didn't watch a whole lot of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," but that is unbelievable.

Obviously, high school is a dangerous place.
Right. Always. High school is a dangerous place for everyone. You're never safe. The first day of high school is like the worst day of your life.

So Jake and Faye are going to prom together, which is totally crushing my Cassie/Jake heart.
I've said this from the beginning, but if Adam and Cassie are written in the stars, I really do believe that in some weird, crazy way Faye and Jake are meant for each other. They've known each other the longest, and they're the only two that will do anything for the other. Prom definitely brings them closer together and a relationship dynamic is definitely being set into place. But it's Faye and Jake ... They screw things like this up all of the time.

We need to create an official couple name for Jake and Faye. What do you want to call them?
Jake and Faye ... Fake? [Laughs.] That's awesome! I'll take that. It pretty much describes those two characters anyway, right?

Well, now that we have that established, let's talk about Jake. Last week, he lost Isaac, which must have been a tough blow. Does that change things for Jake?
He's still out to get his revenge on the witch hunters. He also knows that they're coming and they're not going to stop. First of all, they know that there's another Blackwell child, and secondly, they need to get Cassie. Jake is well aware of this, and he'll be ready at all times.

Essentially, Jake is ready to throwdown for Cassie.
[Laughs.] Of course he is! I don't think Jake is truly over his feelings for Cassie, but she's got a lot going on right now. I don't think she needs to complicate things with a love triangle.

What can you tell me about the finale? I feel like the season has gotten progressively darker, so I can only imagine what the finale will be like.
It really has, and as a group, everyone has been really excited about the show getting darker. It's not as teenybopper as it was in the beginning. It's learning from its big brother, "The Vampire Diaries." There's so much magic in these final episodes. It's awesome. When I was growing up, I used to hate cliffhangers, but now that I'm in this business, I just love them so much. There are going to be multiple cliffhangers in the finale. We're talking about cliffhangers on top of cliffhangers. It's a hell of a ride. Your jaw will be on the floor.

Is there any sibling rivalry between "The Secret Circle" and "The Vampire Diaries"?
I have nothing but love for that show and that cast. I'm actually really good friends with Kat Graham, and coincidentally, she plays the witch on "Vampire Diaries." [Laughs.] So we get a kick out of that.

There needs to be a crossover where you guys start your own coven.
[Laughs.] Right? That would be really cool to do, actually. But they have a ton of storylines, and we have a ton of storylines, so it might be a bit of a mess. We would need three hours just for the exposition.

You're saying this as if I wouldn't watch a three-hour "Vampire Diaries"/"Secret Circle" crossover episode. The Circle can take a summer road trip to Mystic Falls.
Maybe Adam's grandfather, who we learned about in last episode, is in Mystic Falls. That would be pretty cool. And then we find out that Bonnie is part of it. Yeah, that would be cool.
