Obama's George Clooney-Hosted Fundraiser Expected To Pull In $12 Million

Obama George Clooney

George Clooney's high-profile fundraiser for President Barack Obama has sold out, raising an estimated $12 million for the president's re-election campaign.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, 150 Obama supporters have paid $40,000 each to dine with the president at Clooney's Los Angeles home on May 10. Those tickets alone raised $6 million. An additional $6 million is expected to come in from individuals who entered a contest that seats winners at the table with Obama and Clooney. The contest, aimed at cultivating grassroots support, asked donors to give as little as $3 to the campaign for a chance at winning two tickets, plus airfare, to the event.

The dinner will be co-hosted by DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, who has given millions to Obama-supporting super PAC Priorities USA Action.

Clooney is no stranger to politics. The actor was recently arrested in Washington, D.C., during a protest following visits to the White House and Congress to speak out against violence in Sudan. He also has publicly expressed support for the president, telling NBC News' David Gregory that he believed Democrats were bad at messaging, and that he could "sell" Obama's accomplishments to the public.

"I'm proud to do whatever I can to support the president," Clooney said when the fundraiser was announced. "As long as no one asks me to sing."

Below, a look back at other relationships between celebrities and politicians:

Doesn't surprise me that O is in bed with crazies of Hollywood....after all, they play "make believe" for a living and are out of touch with reality. If they agree with "spreading the wealth" let me know where the line forms so I can come and get some of their money. LOONEY CLOONEY

35000 a plate is a drop in the bucket for rich hollywood types, yet you won't hear a word out of the Occupy clowns. Funny how the so-called "1%" doesn't include rich Liberals. Then again, it never did.
09:46 PM on 05/10/2012
Why don't all these rich liberals that think the "rich" should pay higher taxes write a check to the US Treasury. Why?? Because they are hypocrites. They run to their tax accountants to see how they can avoid taxes.

What a pity. With all of the people in this nation struggling to pay their bills, keep their homes, feed their families - and the rich raise outrageous sums of money for campaigns? It makes no sense to me. There is no candidate presently that is worth $12 much less $12 Million. What goes on in the minds of men?

How interesting that you and so many others suddenly devalue an actor's performances along with your personal opinions--as if one has anything to do with the other.

Obama and those around him see life as a constituent dependence on Government support and never taking responsibility for our own lives starting from birth to death.
After this I see how no one can have any confusion as to which way to cast their VOTE !!!

Ineptocracy
(in-ep-toc'-ra-cy) - a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers
