Ed Schultz On Donating To Obama: 'If I Could, I Would,' But MSNBC Won't Let Me (VIDEO)

Ed Schultz told Bill Maher on Friday's "Real Time" that he would donate to President Obama's campaign if MSNBC would allow him to.

Maher, who famously gave $1 million to Obama's Super PAC in February, brought the subject up after a round of fulsome praise for the president by Schultz.

"I've done my part, Ed," he said. "...You got more money than me, Ed. Just saying."

"They won't allow me," Schultz replied. "I can't give money."

"What do you mean you can’t give money?" Maher asked. ""Where I work, I'm not allowed to give money!" Schultz said. "I can't give political money to anybody." He added that, "If I could, I would. Damn right I would."

After ribbing him for another moment, Maher said that he knew Schultz was telling the truth.

"I remember Keith Olbermann got in big trouble because he just gave a couple of grand," Maher said. (When he was still at MSNBC, Olbermann was suspended in late 2010 for donating to Democratic election campaigns. The network's Joe Scarborough was also suspended for donating to candidates in Florida.)

"He did!" Schultz said. "I'm trying to keep my job."
