One poor cat has survived the journey from Iran to San Francisco after being found covered in mud and gasoline in the streets of Tehran.

Maloos, a young tabby cat, was flown thousands of miles from the Middle East to the West Coast by a concerned animal lover and is currently being cared for at San Francisco Animal Care and Control. He arrived in San Francisco on April 15.

Maloos was initially rescued by Sayeh Animal Guardians, an animal rescue organization, in Tehran before it was arranged to have him cared for in SF. He was initially discovered with wounds and sores over much of his body and had a piece of shrapnel stuck in his face.

Veterinarians think Maloos was born with deformities in his hips and legs which forced him to move around by dragging his rear along the streets of Tehran. Iranian veterinary staff tried to fix one of his hind legs but the surgery didn’t succeed, and his leg was amputated instead. The shrapnel was removed from his face in San Francisco.

Maloos continues to recover and may be a good candidate for an animal wheelchair. SFACC staff hopes he’ll be adopted some day.

Maloos is just one example of the many amazing cats that need a good home and someone to take care of them.

This week out roundup of adorable pets in need of adoption come from Give Me Shelter Cat Rescue. The non-profit, volunteer-based organization focuses on saving and finding homes for adult and senior cats at risk in San Francisco shelters. Dedicated to unwanted, abused, abandoned or homeless cats, Give Me Shelter seeks to find them all loving homes.

All the cats featured are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, given a microchip and felv/fiv tested before being adopted.
