Highlights of House GOP legislation cutting spending by more than $300 billion over the coming decade.

Food Stamps – Cuts $35.8 billion by eliminating benefit increases in President Barack Obama's economic stimulus and tightening eligibility requirements. Cuts spending by 4 percent over coming decade.

Health Care – Cuts the president's overhaul law in several ways, saving $66 billion. Cuts include requiring those receiving health insurance subsidies to repay excess subsidies when their income increases, eliminating grants to states to set up health insurance exchanges and repealing a fund for prevention efforts like cancer screenings and immunizations.

Financial Regulation – Repeals several elements of the 2010 Dodd-Frank law to save $30 billion, including $22.5 billion saved by repealing federal liquidation authority of "too big to fail" banks and other financial institutions, financed by assessments on other large institutions. Also eliminates funding for a new consumer protection bureau and a new mortgage assistance program aimed at helping people modify their home loans.

Federal Employee Pensions – Cuts deficits by $83 billion over 10 years, requiring federal workers to contribute more toward their pensions in increments phased in over five years. Workers hired after 1983 would contribute an additional 5 percent for a total contribution of 5.8 percent. Workers in the pre-1983 system – who are ineligible for Social Security – would also pay an additional 5 percent for a total contribution of 12 percent.

Medical Liability – Cuts the deficit by up to $66 billion though lower Medicare and Medicaid costs stemming from new curbs on medical liability lawsuits, including a $250,000 cap on punitive damages and protections for manufacturers of medical devices that meet federal safety standards.

Child Tax Credit – Raises $7.6 billion by requiring people claiming tax credits of up to $1,000 per child as tax refunds to have Social Security numbers. It is aimed at preventing undocumented immigrants from claiming the tax cuts.

Social Services Block Grants – Saves $17 billion over 10 years by eliminating the Social Services Block Grant to states, which supports numerous programs, including Meals on Wheels, child welfare, day care for both children and adults and help for the disabled.

These people are not christains. How do you take food from babies?I guess they just want all the poor people to die so they wont have to deal with them becouse they think they are so much better.

How do you take food from babies? It's actually a very simple answer. Don't have them if YOU can't feed them. I would never have a baby I can't feed and then expect the government to feed it. Only a fool would do that. It is not the governments, taxpayers, or anybody else's responsibility to feed your babies but you. Why are you having babies and then making it somebody else's responsibility to feed them. This is very funny to me. What goes around comes around and now you are finally going to get a taste of your medicine.

In case you dont know people do not have babies they can not afford to feed things happen like places of employment going out of business the unemployment cost of living going up and many other things people like you will never understand. All you people care about is making tax cuts for people who can afford to pay their taxes but are to cheap to do so greedy people that want to cheat the goverment out of money for their own personal gains. And also to recieve food stamps in Texas you have to work or be in school. So no one is just sitting at home having babies to collect food stamps.

It's time the American people shut down the government!!!!!!!!
11:07 AM on 05/17/2012
The goverment is doing a grand spanking job by refusing to help american people, and not passing legislation needed give people services. The federal goverment is stalling and paying games with our right to have services, not there business to cut food stamps medical or any other goverment service needed benifit american people, just so you can keep milatery in business.. The war is over, and time money is spent to help american people. John Boehner and rest of his gop party can't relate or understand, why american people lined up in drobs outside of welfare offices needing help. We do not need to incorperate a bush senior or junior tax plan into budget help american people. You need to approve things Obama is asking you to do so american people can get help.

No thinking person is going to be fooled by these games...
The House Republicans will pass their versions of the budget, the Senate Democrats won't act on them, the Senate Republicans will not allow the Senate Democrat budgets to be voted on, and the Republicans will accuse the Democrats of not passing a budget...
There will be no reconciliation, and nothing presented to the President - except for make shift temporary budget and appropriation bills to continue operations in the absence of having a single comprehensive budget.
Eventually we can expect to see disruption in government operations because of a failure of Congress to approve funding...

This GOP plan looks like the total destruction of the Middle Class, Seniors and the poor.
I see nothing in it that would affect Corps. or the 1%'s.

Same story, verse number ????

The Republicans have NO plan other than cut, cut, cut -- anything that helps the middle class or the poor. It's disheartening how far they will go to protect the 1% sugga - daddy's to their campaigns.

No one in government ever wants to cut the PORK first. Government pensions would be a great place to start. Pay for foreign aid only after all the bills at home are paid.

I would call two middle east wars the worst and most expensive foreign aid ever.

The GOTP: They won't cut $4 Billion in Welfare for Big Oil, but they will cut the food aid for a Child during hard economic times.

And they call this "Pro-Life".

These False Christians and False Patriots make me sick.

There is nothing more Patriotic than caring for Americans and the GOTP hate any Americans not like themselves.

39 percent of all welfare recipients are white, 37 percent are black, 17 percent are Hispanic, and 3 percent are Asian, according to data from Aid to Families With Dependent Children.

Maybe they think they are going to hurt minorities only.

And yet, a large percentage of that 39% white recipients will VOTE for them!!

That people will vote against their best interests, in spite of the facts, is what is so hard to believe.

Where are the cuts to their own benefits? They have top shelf everything and plan on keeping it at the expense of the less fortunate.
