Keystone XL: Warren Buffett Supports TransCanada's Pipeline

AP  |  Posted: 05/07/2012 1:03 pm Updated: 05/07/2012 2:13 pm

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Billionaire Warren Buffett supports building the Keystone XL pipeline that TransCanada wants to build to carry Canadian oil south across the Great Plains to connect to Gulf Coast refineries.

Buffett was asked about the project that would cross Nebraska Monday on Fox Business Network.

Buffett says he's not an expert on the project, but he thinks it generally makes sense to build the pipeline.

Last week, TransCanada reapplied for a permit to build the pipeline after changing the route through Nebraska to avoid the environmentally sensitive Sandhills region.

State Department approval is needed because the $7 billion pipeline would cross a U.S. border before crossing Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma. TransCanada has also proposed connecting the pipeline to the Bakken oil field in North Dakota.

I know when the left will finally end their fight against oil drilling, and will stop trying to pass more energy regulations in the country. It will end when the oil companies are owned by the government, then the oil will be falling from the sky like rain water.

Hehe. What a pickle for the religious left.

I'm glad Buffett does a lot of philanthropic activities, but I wish he'd support cleaner energy. Solar energy could benefit a lot from some research funding, and it would be a drop in the ocean for him to do that - and it would do so much good too.

Of course he supports the pipeline, he worships money.

He's a useless eater.

Dear Friends,

Wow, Mr Buffett owns a rail line, I think he must be getting old, he normally is only for stuff that helps him.

Let Buffett underwrite the risk and personally insure against all potential damages to the environment and watch the oracle run for cover.

Buffet may know paper monies, but it is painfully obvious, like most, he is unaware how Earth functions and cycles to give and sustain all life or the eco-nomy of our eco-system dependent Earth.

This pipeline is going to butcher multi-thousands of acres of ecosystems, the economy of oxygen, fresh water, the atmosphere, the climate and the very life zone of the Earth, the biosphere/ecosphere.

Eco-literates know, man is "suicidal" when he kills ecosystems for any reason.

Dear Linus,

Yes, if they build this pipeline all life on earth will end. The sun will not longer shine, all the stars in the sky will go out.

It is the end of not just earth by every planet in the universe.

Get real, it is pipeline, we have lots of them, and this is just one more, some pipeline carrry very bad stuff, this one is not.

No, the Earth will continue to twirl around the sun. The concern here is, man will fall extinct because he is killing all the reasons Earth supports his very existence or Earth's natural and wild ecosystems, the eco-nomy of life itself.

Now we are discussing oxygen, the integrity of the atmosphere, the regulation and moderation of the climate, fresh water, safety from global disease epidemics, the sequestration of C02 and methane, the very life zone of the Earth, her biosphere/ecosphere, pollination, seed dispersal, 99% of pest control, all of the free, life supporting services ecosystems generate.

Can any energy provide the preceding? When does man and Earth say enough is enough? Earth can become like Mars, little oxygen, hardly any water, and no oxygen making, water exhaling plants and trees, butterlies/pollinators, no birds/pollinators and tree and plant planters, no top predators, like wolves..

Life doesn't exist because of any energy. What is a living, life giving Earth and what is dead planet, as life giving as the surface of Mars.

The Us citizens are not getting this oil!!

We are getting all the risk and no benefit.

BP left us with a mess on our shores, dead US citizens and a ruin shoreline. CONGRESS GAVE THEM A FREE WALK......

Until we have a governemnt that we can trust and we are going to get some oil out of this deal and some real "insurance" coverage in case of a pill. This deal needs to be dead in the water!!!

Dear woman,

We import more oil than any country on the earth, so who is this going to again? You want to get oil form the middle east instead?

Wake up!! THis oil is going to CHINA and INDIA!!! It is not coming to America!! LMAO!! Do you not read the fine print on this real bad deal. The jobs go to Canadians and the oil goes overseas!!!!! All the US citizens get is a few hundred temp jobs and a great deal of tar sand that is high dangerous and toxic. READ THIS FINE PRINT. I suggest you read it in Canada where it is against the law to lie in the press. Read their website in Canada,

Mr Buffet, despite his occasional humanitarian comments, is STILL the 1%.

When there's no clean drinking water for the rest of us, he'll just order Perrier or join bushie at his crawford ranch where they can discuss plans for buying up water sources. Point being - the wealthy do not need to care about the environment; their money will allow them the best of everything for as long as anything lasts.

It's YOU and ME, the 99%, who have NO safety nets - for anything.

Don't know about you, but I treasure clean drinking water for me - and for the planet's innocent creatures as well.

This pipeline simply doesn't make sense. The tar is for export and will not benefit the US economy, at the same time as exposing it to great risks of spills and pollution. Only the 1% get to benefit and I guess that includes Buffet.

Dear bubble,

We import more oil than any nation in the world, this oil can replace oil from the Middle East, why are you guys on the left convinced that the oil is going overseas, you are making no sense.
