White House's Value Estimated At $110 Million

White House

There may be only two ways to live in a house worth more than $100 million: Become super rich or get elected President.

The White House is worth an estimated $110 million, according to real estate site Movoto.com, who asked Washington D.C. real estate experts Koitz Group to appraise the iconic mansion’s value (h/t Atlanta Journal Constitution). The White House’s 132 rooms make up 55,000 square feet total and include a swimming pool, bowling alley and movie theater. When factoring in the historical value of the property, Koitz estimates that the home of 44 presidents could be worth more than $1 billion.

With a price tag of more than $100 million, the White House counts as one of the most expensive properties in America, at least according to current listings. Only two properties in the U.S. are listed as more expensive, according to Forbes. The 10,000 square foot top floor penthouse at One57 Penthouses in New York can be purchased for $115 million, while the 35,000 square foot Fleur de Lys Mansion in Los Angeles, CA is valued at $125 million.

When it comes to the homes of other world leaders, the White House’s appraised value dwarfs that of the U.K. Prime Minister’s official residence at 10 Downing Street, which was estimated to be worth $7.3 million in 2010, according to The Guardian. The home of the Queen, however, is a different story. Buckingham Palace is said to be worth more than $1.6 billion, CBS News reports.

In addition to the White House, the government owns a bunch of other property, albeit valued at much less. In 2010, the government owned 1.2 million buildings, land parcels and other structures overall, according to then Office of Management and Budget director Peter R. Orszag. In fact, with so much property, President Obama proposed selling off excess and surplus property to save an estimated $8 billion in 2010, according to CNNMoney.

He’s not the only one to unload government property to ease budget woes. In 2009, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer sold off a number of state owned properties including the state's capitol building in an aim to raise an estimated $735 million. She's since proposed buying some of that property back.

Like the rest of the Obama economy sectors the price for the White House is down 50%. Or..is it just him?
Does anyone see how racist the name "White House" is? I can't believe we haven't renamed it the Rainbow House or something more sinister.
Can you make a recommendation?

The way this P{rewsident is going, a sale/leaseback might be needed to use the $115 million to help pay for all of the extra Medicare costs he is running up-not to mention his wife's 22 person $2.2 million/year staff. It works for me.

It's interesting how many of you want to see the Obamas leave. I have to wonder why. Obama inherited a Dow @ 7950, it's now over 13,000. America's corporations -- from Caterpillar to McDonalds-- were in crisis and lined up @ the Fed for loans. They all reported their highest profits in recorded history in 2010; then topped those in '11. He inherited UE of 7.5% & an economy hemorraging jobs @ a rate of 750,000 per mo. When Reagan inherited UE of 7.6%, it soared to 10.8% within a yr, stood @ 8.3% within 2...and he nearly tripled the national debt and raised taxes 11 X to do that "turnaround". Obama has done virtually the same thing, with the "worst economic crisis since the great depression"...in the midst of 2 wars...with no tax increases...and without doubling or tripling the debt, but he's " a failure", not "a hero". Furthermore, Obama has "kept us safe" thru out his Presidency. Now, you want to turn this economy back to those whose policies created the situation we find ourselves in -- and who offer no solutions except more tax cuts for the "job creators" (who've created 0 jobs) and massive cuts that will cripple the Middle Class ( those folks who create all the demand that drives our economy).

You do realize it's because he's black. You can spew your facts all you want, but the tea baggers{who never cared about Bush doubling our debt} and Christian Right can't handle that a black man is president. Oh, by the way you forgot to mention we have had 26 straight months of job growth. It doen't matter though, they only get their info, {not facts} from Fox News.

When I first read the headline and it stated 110 mil, I thought it incorrect until I read on and realized that didn't include it's historic value. 1 billion seems to be more like it, but in all reality, I doubt that a real value could be put on something like the White House. The art work in there has to be worth more than 100 mil in itself.
