Elizabeth Halseth, Former Nevada State Senator, Poses In Bikini For 'Maxim'

The Huffington Post  |  By Posted: 05/08/2012 6:18 pm Updated: 05/08/2012 6:31 pm

A former Republican state senator in Nevada -- who resigned after just a year in office -- is now posing in a bikini in Maxim in her campaign for a spot on the magazine's list of the 100 hottest women in the world.

Halseth is a write-in candidate for a spot on the list. Her new campaign comes months after her resignation from the state Senate. Halseth was elected in 2010 at the age of 27, making her the youngest woman elected to the Nevada Senate. Her resignation came in the midst of a public divorce and child custody battle and her announcement that she needed to leave the state to find a job.

The Maxim contest aims to identify the "sexiest women on the planet." It is not known how Halseth ended up in the contest, but her write-in campaign is accompinied by a professional photo of her in a bikini.

Others on the write-in list include actress Maggie Q, actress Allison Brie, model Adrianne Curry and singer Avril Lavigne. Stephen Colbert is also on the list as a write-in candidate.

Halseth enjoyed a meteoric rise to political stardom in Carson City prior to her career collapsing amid personal difficulties.

She was elected in 2010 in a Las Vegas-area district after living in the state for four years and not having a background in politics. Halseth had attended all sessions during the Senate's biennial session in 2011, but colleagues reported her missing from committee sessions in early 2012, including meetings of a local government taxation committee she led Senate Republicans on.

The legislative absences came after police arrested her husband, Daniel Halseth, on "open and gross lewdness" charges at their Las Vegas home in October 2011. Halseth had accused her husband of trying to force her to have sex and of taking her purse and car keys from her.

Halseth later filed for divorce from her husband and custody of their three children. When she resigned from the Senate in February she said she could not find a job in Nevada and was leaving the state. At the time she wrote Gov. Brian Sandoval (R) that her job search difficulties came from her being "regularly demonized by selfish partisans and a handful of reckless bloggers with personal agendas of salacious, unfounded personal attacks on me."

There's a lot more to the Halseth saga.. HuffPo should really dig a little deeper.

I think you don't know what you're talking about. As a member of the family (and a liberal)...I am really getting tired of people demonizing her because of what her husband did to her, and spreading blatant lies to the media. If a woman's husband is being abusive, emotionally, physically, sexually, than to try to smear her is a horrendous thing. Regardless of how you feel about her politics, Elizabeth is a good person, and she doesn't deserve this treatment.

The woman who assailed Nevadans with her traditional values on marriage, family and faith:

1. Stopped showing up at legislative hearings;
2. People started publicly questioning where she was;
3. We discovered she was living out of state with her boyfriend;
4. She was forced to resign after being found out;
5. She did all this while still being married to her loving husband;
6. The same husband she accused of trying to grope her after he confronted her about her affair (because isn't having sex with the person you just found out has been cheating on you what anyone would want to do?)
8. Poses in bikini in Maxim. (because isn't that what every female conservative elected Republican who believes in marriage, family and God does to reinvent herself after blowing up her life?)

Well, she got the part about GOP traditional values right - hypocrisy at its finest.

Wow. I think that Willard has found his VEEP. Go Romney/Halseth for any year in the future. They sure can't win in the foreseeable future.

Maxim doesn't show any naughty bits and she doesn't seem that attractive in any case. Used to get that rag for free and even then it was over priced since I can't get that time back!

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas... unless you're a politician. But then again, they're used to spreading their legs for large things, if you count corporations as people

Sad! Were she a Democrat would this have happened? Or does the general mistreatment and disrespect for women that is the party platform for the Republicans promote this self victimization? Did her Ex husband think it was due him because of his political beliefs? If you polled misogynists what percent would be Republican?

I thought it was impossible to be arrested for lewdness in Vegas

Interesting career trajectory but it's a free county. Just there has to be something beyond a bikini shot, like acting or striping. With so many swimsuit models in LA, the competition is fierce.
