Patrick Robinson, Texas Teacher, Accused Of Lifting Students Off The Ground By Hair

The Huffington Post  |  By Posted: 05/08/2012 4:24 pm Updated: 05/08/2012 4:25 pm

Hedrick Middle School

Patrick Robinson, a 26-year-old teacher at Hedrick Middle School in Lewisille, Texas, is the subject of a local police investigation after three students reported the physical education teacher lifted them off the floor by their hair, WFAA-TV reports.

Parents of the students who were allegedly abused filed a compliant, and Robinson was placed on paid leave pending the results of the investigation.

Police Capt. Kevin Deaver told NBC Dallas-Forth Worth that, while Robinson has not been arrested, he could face three felony counts of injury to a child if the investigation yields sufficient evidence.

The Lewisville Independent School District confirmed that Robinson, who has worked at the school for two years, has since resigned for the rest of the current school year, according to the station.

This isn't the first school gym-related incident to cause controversy.

Last month, Marco Inskip, a 40-year-old substitute teacher in Egg Harbor City, N.J., was suspended after allegedly telling a 7-year-old girl her clothes were "too sexy" for gym class.

The girl's father, Henry Wilson, told the Press of Atlantic City that, while he appreciates the suspension, he wants the punishment to be more extensive. The Egg Harbor City school board plans to visit the case in May.

I'd like to know the reason why he did this.

What a whack job. Guess he felt entitled, was having a stressful day. We need camera's in the classrooms. That would create jobs- people who sit at home and monitor activity and present evidence.

I truly hope these parents press charges. The only way to stop this teacher bullying is to confront the bullies and put them behind bars. As it stands right now, teachers feel free to emotionally and physically abuse the children in their care because the worst thing that happens is a paid vacation.

Why were they on the ground? Did he pull them off of the ground as they were rolling around fighting? Were they doing some calisthenic exercises? If they were fighting and he was rough with them it's quite a different circumstance than if they were just doing exercises.

Child abuse is child abuse. To suggest that somehow the children made the teacher abuse them is evil.

"evil"? Wow. Just Wow.

How would you feel if someone pulled you off the ground with your hair? Do you think it just hurts more because you are a grownup? Would you ever for a second think this is okay? Kind people don't do stuff like this. We need kind teachers. Some kids have such unforgiving parents at home, such a narrow view of everything. The whole human scope needs to be modeled by a teacher.

Well, I explained below to poetic justice, but they didn't post it. When I read it, the only thing I could imagine was that perhaps the kids were rolling around on the ground fighting and the teacher pulled whatever he could get ahold of, shirts, hair whatever to pull them apart. Middle schoolers can be as big and strong as adults, (mine certainly are), so this is no easy task. Not abuse in that instance, (IMHO, anyway).

It's quite different if the kids were just sitting there. I still have a hard time imagining a teacher just reaching down a yanking someone up by the hair. (apart from just wrong; it's w.e.i.rd. it's bizzaaaar, no?)

As to your last sentences; kindness certainly is not the whole human scope. But that is another long discussion, I think.

Cheers,

This is a nice article, but a misspelling in this paragraph, caught my attention.

Parents of the students who were allegedly abused filed a *compliant*, and Robinson was placed on paid leave pending the results of the investigation.

If he did it, I'm sure he had a good reason.

Abuse does not have to be physical to hurt children. My child's teacher shamed and embarrassed my son yesterday in front of his whole class. It was a teaching moment and this teacher chose to bully. I think if she had hit him it would have caused less damage to him. Bullying is wrong especially when it comes from the very person who is educating them. I cannot reach every bully, but believe me this one will be handled tomorrow...

Do not go alone. If you can contact a lawyer -- do so -- but at least have someone else with you. Put your complaint in writing, and record everything said in writing for your records. Also, be clear about what you want to happen -- what response you expect from the teacher and the school.

The suspect still was paid and freed. He is innocent until proven guilty.

Injustice still occurs.

I hope the local Child Welfare Agency looks into the case of the "too sexy" 7 year old. Young girls who act too sexy for their age are sometimes being sexually abused or are being groomed for future sexual abuse.

Yes, or maybe there is something fishy about this Sub. Definitely should be looked into though.

what's wrong with these teachers? lifting a student by the hair is demoralizing... and he allegedly did it 3 times... he should be fired...
