Detroit Mother's Day 2012: Michigan Metroparks Offer Activities For Family Fun

Mothers Day Activities Abound At Michigan Metroparks

Looking for something a little more outdoorsy to do on Mother's Day? If your mom isn't the type to want spa pampering on Mother's Day, Michigan Metroparks are offering a variety of activities this weekend to let families spend some time among the trees and meadows on and ahead of mom's special day.

For those who are trying to spend more time with their moms, find out how the woodland creatures make time at Animal Moms, an event at the Oakwoods Nature Center on Saturday, May 12 at 1 p.m. Children are welcome. Oakwoods Metropark is located along the Huron River near Flat Rock, Mich. Pre-registration is required. To find out more call 734-697-9181.

Lake St. Clair Metropark near Mt. Clemens, Mich. is holding a 5K Tree of Hope March for Moms to raise awareness about post-partum depression on Saturday, May 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On Sunday, visitors are encouraged to take a hike in the woods to see flowers in their natural environment at Oakwood Metropark's Mother's Day Wildflower Walk. The walk takes place Sunday, May 13 at 1 p.m. Hikers are asked to pre-register by calling 734-782-3956.

Kensington Metropark near New Hudson, Mich. is offering moms a day at the farm with hay rides and a chance to meet farm animals and their babies. The event takes place Sunday, May 13 and runs from noon to 4 p.m. There is a small fee, but moms are free. For more information call 248-685-8632.
