Socialist candidate Francois Hollande knocked current French Presdent Nicolas Sarkozy out of the Elysee Palace in this Sunday's election.

Yet "just one year ago, the idea that Francois Hollande would become France's next president would have been laughed at – even by some of his political allies," the Associated Press opined in an article published shortly after Hollande's victory.
