Jim Pendergraph Advances To Runoff Against Robert Pittenger

Jim Pendergraph

The North Carolina congressional candidate who made headlines when he expressed doubts about President Obama's citizenship has advanced to a runoff election for the District 9 U.S. House seat.

Jim Pendergraph will face off against fellow Republican Robert Pittenger on July 17, according to WBTV.com. Pendergraph and Pittenger beat out the other eight Republicans running in the primary Tuesday, but neither got the 40 percent of the vote necessary to nab the nomination.

"With 10 candidates, the mathematics don't make it easy for one person to come out on top with 40 percent so we expected a runoff from the start," Pendergraph said.

Pendergraph was initially endorsed by the Charlotte Observer, but the paper retracted its endorsement after he made birther remarks at a campaign event last month with Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

“I have reason to be suspicious,” Pendergraph said, when asked about Obama's birth certificate. “But I don’t know. I haven’t seen the facts. I think there’s a lot of smoke and generally when there’s smoke there’s got to be fire somewhere.”

The Observer's editorial board responded in a scathing op-ed:

By buddying up to one of America’s more hateful egomaniacs and then joining with fringe “birthers” to question President Obama’s citizenship, Pendergraph has contradicted much of what he told the Observer’s editorial board in his endorsement interview last month. As a result, we have lost faith in him, and urge voters to consider Edwin Peacock or Ric Killian in the 9th Congressional District race.

If Obama was not worried about Sheriff Joe Arpaio's investigation and the many court trials around the country regarding Obama's eligibility to be president, why is the Obama Administration clearing the way to destroy evidence which is key to these investigations and trials?

Nobody's worried about Arpaio's "investigation". All it was ever intended to do was create a smear and make some money. Did you send in your check?

"Pendergraph was initially endorsed by the Charlotte Observer, but the paper retracted its endorsement after he made birther remarks at a campaign event last month with Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio."

When will the birthers learn that intelligent and knowledgeable people don't buy this crap. Would it not be better to construct a responsible and factual position to run against the Dems?

The Repubs seem to be satisfied with pandering to their red meat base and ignoring everyone else.

In news you will not see reported on HUFPO and much more interesting: inmate rens a good campaign against Obama from Federal prison.

The inmate, Keith Judd, is serving time at the Beaumont Federal Correctional Institution in Texas for making threats at the University of New Mexico in 1999. With 93 percent of precincts reporting, Obama was receiving just under 60 percent of the vote to Judd's 40 percent.
For some West Virginia Democrats, simply running against Obama is enough to get Judd votes.
"I voted against Obama," said Ronnie Brown, a 43-year-old electrician from Cross Lanes who called himself a conservative Democrat. "I don't like him. He didn't carry the state before and I'm not going to let him carry it again."
When asked which presidential candidate he voted for, Brown said, "That guy out of Texas."
Judd was able to get on the state ballot by paying a $2,500 fee and filing a form known as a notarized certification of announcement, said Jake Glance, a spokesman for the Secretary of State's office.

And, to the typical cons who write in here... "entitlements" are not "entitlements" if YOU pay for them. Medicare, social security and retirement programs are paid for by the individuals. With your line of logic (actually lack of logic) any insurance you pay for is an "entitlement"... I'm sure all you righties refuse your medicare, social security checks and don't carry any insurance since you're so dead set against "entitltement" programs. Yeah, right.

Seems as though North Carolina is now in a race to the bottom with Arizona, Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia. So far, it's neck and neck for the rednecks.

If a "birther" is, as the Urban Dictionary explains, one who is a natural born U.S. citizen and a heterosexual, then I am a birther.

We need to start asking people who use the term "birther" in a derogatory way if they actually understand what they are saying. About themselves as well as about the one they believe they are aiming a slap to.

The flip side of the allegations that Obama was not born a citizen of the US is that he was born here, but he has hidden the fact that he was the son of an affair his mother had with the man who became his Marxism mentor. Either way, liberals and Democrats won't care what the truth is and just asking the question is racist. But what about his travels abroad and the allegation that he used a non-US passport? Or the allegation that he registered for college as a foreign, non-US student? Why does Romney have to show decades of tax records while the President won't show us anything that sheds light on his upbringing and college education? You gotta love politics. There's never a slow day, even when there's a slow day.

Did Apario go to school ??? May be he too should apply for SWISS citizenship with his Siwss account buddy Mitt and Tea Party Darling Bachmann ! If Bachmann can take both these guys with her, we would be better off without these NUTS, and SWITZERLAND will never have NUT shortage for its chocolates !!
12:06 AM on 05/10/2012
Birthers have to rethink given Bachmann is now SWISS- 50% or less !! Could even be more !!
Any way , what is confirmed is she made herself ONE TERM American before she could make OBAMA one term President !!

I hate to say it, and I dearly love all my friends back there, but I'm glad I moved away from North Carolina. When I was there, people had more sense than to elect someone like this!

No, although I did live there for a few years back in the early 80s. After the shooting at the McDonalds in San Ysidro, I decided it was time to advance my education and moved in order to do so (and take care of my mother at the same time).
