Cops: Man Carrying $5,000 Refuses To Pay $12 Cab Fare

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Police say a New York man who refused to pay a $12 taxi fare was carrying more than $5,000 when the cabbie drove him around looking for cheap cigarettes.

When the man had the cabbie take him to a third store, the driver asked for the $12.40 fare. The passenger refused to pay and told the cabbie to call police over the issue.

According to the newspaper, the arrest report says the man became uncooperative. Police handcuffed him and searched his pockets, finding more than $5,000 in cash.

The man is now charged with theft of services.

Since he asked for the police, I assume he had full intent to be arrested. Now I have to wonder what he gained by this. Can't see a judge letting him leave without having paid court costs at least and almost certainly the cab fare unless a lawyer becomes inviolved in which case the cab trip will wind up costing at least $1,000

After not checking I have found out that the man was a smoking Tea Party Registered Republican who had been thrown out of his house by his wife becuse he had spent to much moneey on cigg. The $5000.00 police found in his pocket was from the joint checking occount he shared wwith his wife And he had just cleaned out so that she could not get any money out of it!
