Marion Cotillard's 'Dark Knight Rises' Role: Not A Villain?

Marion Cotillard Talks Surprising 'Dark Knight Rises' Character

Since Marion Cotillard was cast in "The Dark Knight Rises," many fans have speculated that the French-born actress was playing Talia Al Ghul, the vengeful daughter of Ra's Al Ghul (Liam Neeson), whom Batman/Wayne killed in "Batman Begins." In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, however, Cotillard says she's "a good guy."

When Warner Bros. sent out the press release to announce Cotillard had been cast in Christopher Nolan's Batman finale, the studio noted that her character's name was Miranda Tate, "a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father's philanthropic endeavors for Gotham."

During her chat with THR, Cotillard said that Tate is fully on the level. "[She] is fascinated by Wayne Enterprises," Cotillard said. "They go through difficulties, and she wants to help provide the world clean energies."

Of course, whether Cotillard is just throwing shade ("Inception" reference!) remains to be seen.

"The Dark Knight Rises" arrives in theaters July 20. For more from Cotillard, including how she feels now about her controversial 9/11 comments, head over to THR.com.
