Princess Diana Wedding Dress Scrapbook

Royal wedding fever is alive and well -- but this time around, it has nothing to do with Will or Kate.

A scrapbook from Prince Charles and Princess Diana's 1981 wedding, which went up for sale on Wednesday, is expected to cause a bidding frenzy among royal family enthusiasts. According to experts, the memento could fetch as much as $8,080 (£5,000) in an online auction.

The scrapbook was created by Princess of Wales' wedding dress designer, Elizabeth Emanuel, who fashioned the book out of lace and fabrics from Princess Diana's wedding gown and her bridesmaid's dresses.

The five-page scrapbook incorporates the specially commissioned Nottingham lace used on the bodice of Princess Diana's bridal gown on the cover, and fragments of bridal tulle, ivory faille bow, pearl beads, lace used on the hem and two swatches of silk all taken from the late Princess of Wales' bridal gown fabric, according to the auction website.

The memento also features an original watercolor sketch of the gown, press clippings from the wedding and an autograph from Emanuel herself.

Despite the fact that Prince Charles and Princess Diana's nuptials were over three decades ago, the Princess of Wales' famously pouffy wedding dress is still getting attention today. The gown, which features 10,000 mother-of-pearl sequins and pearls and a 25-foot train, recently debuted as part of the "Diana: A Celebration" exhibit at Minnesota's Mall of America in February.

The traveling exhibit, which will run until June 10, also includes 28 of Diana's designer dresses, family heirlooms and personal keepsakes.

I am sorry but that was one of the ugliest wedding gowns that I have ever seen. But it fit in with her fashion sense, or lack there of, during that time period.

When she divorced Prince Charles, she totally came out of her shell, she was gorgeous. I loved her Catherine Walker gowns.

No way would a bride wear all that dress now, but she knew that England wanted a big show so she gave them one! Some dresses are timeless some are not.

That dress was the ugliest wedding dress I have ever seen. I have no idea who decided on the material but it looked like she had slept in it the night before. I remember my mom letting me stay home from school that day to watch the wedding. Diana was a survivor after dealing with the royals. She was an amazing woman!

The dress was purposely over-sized. The wedding was in a HUGE cathedral in order to accomodate many guests. The dress was supposed to make her visible to the congregation and especially the TV cameras.

Thought the gown is hideous especially for a young bride!
However ,when the "Princess Diana Tour", (Can't recall exact name of display.),
came to Mall of America I went to see the mementos of such a
wonderful woman!
The gown, to my surprise, was among those things.
The detail around the neck and bodace were amazingly beautiful.
Still found the dress overall ugly!!!
Just my honest opinion.

wedding was 30 yrs. ago and dress was appropriate for its time. Princess Diana was so young and most people thought it was a beautiful, fairytale wedding. unfortunetly, seems the wedding was of most important and the marriage was not a fairytale. lesson learned in front of the whole world, the marriage should be more important than the wedding

I have always wondered if Diana's dressmakers were paid off by Camilla.............

Fairytale wedding that unfortunately ended up badly ... goes to show you what happens when you try to "arrange" love.

I watched the Royal Wedding back then and wondered by the dress was wrinkled. You would think the designer would have taken the fabric into consideration at the time.

Don't forget this was 1981...the decade of shoulder pads and bad style. I think she looked lovely that day, but the dress kind of wore her. However, if she were married today I know she would have chosen something much more fitting and slenderizing...she had great taste. I look back at pictures of myself in the 80's and hate the stuff I wore! I thought shoulder pads were the greatest!!!!
