Taste Test: The Best Mint Chocolate Ice Cream

Whether you call it mint chocolate chip, mint chip or peppermint bon bon, this ice cream flavor has some truly loyal fans.

According to the International Dairy Foods Association, mint chocolate chip is one of the 10 most popular ice cream flavors -- and it's easy to see why. It's got everything you could want in a frozen treat: sweet, chocolatey indulgence balanced by the bright flavor of mint. And while we could go on for ages touting the genius qualities of this ice cream flavor, what we really want to know is which brand makes it best. It's clear that no two are created equal. Some of them come in a neon shade of green while others are white -- some barely contain any chips, while others double-down on the chocolate.

Our panel of editors blind-tested 10 different brands of mint chocolate ice cream to determine which brand makes it best. We tried it all -- green, white, double chip, chocolate cookie -- you name it. Click through the slideshow below to find out which mint chocolate ice cream you should be picking up at your next visit to the grocery store (and which to steer clear of).

As always, our taste tests are in no way influenced by or sponsored by the brands included.

Mint Chocolate chip Ice Cream is a cure for hangovers.

Just bought 3 twins mint ice cream right now and terribly disappointed. Is there no mint in this thing?

Ben and Jerry's is good, but the best mint I've tasted is Wilcoxon's Moose moss. Mint ice cream with bits of chocolate and fudge.

Have a look here. According to this site (though not a lot of votes yet), mint chocolate chip is the clear best flavor. http://bestions.com/questions/what-is-the-best-ice-cream-flavor-ever

I know and love Three Twins Mint Confetti so I am confused by the comments of the iciness and lack of flavor. I wonder where the pint what bought from someplace that didn't keep the ice cream in good shape. Despite the bad review, Three Twins rocks!

Edy's ice cream has so much more air in it than other brands. It is really quite ridiculous.

I have had the Edy's slow churned mint choc chip and what I have had is not grainy at all it is very creamy and good. Jeesh perhaps I am missing out on the good stuff guess I had better try Ben and Jerry's and pay $4 a pint......

Edy's looks like Dryer's, I guess it is a regional name?

The BEST mint chocolate is Perry's Mint Ting-a-ling, hands down.

I recommend you all fly into MDT Harrisburg. Rent a car and drive north on I-81. Get off at the Hometown, PA exit and go east on Route 54 until you hit Hosensock. Take the back way into Locust Valley and go down Chee Street until it connects with the road that takes you over the Tuscarora mountain to the Lewistown Valley.

The place is called Heissler's Dairy Bar. They make their own ice cream. Have for decades. Try all their flavors if you can. Good stuff and worth the trip.

hard to imagine a better chocolate chip mint than the turkey hill version. yum yum. By the way banks robbed us of 15 trillion in bailouts. That is a lot of future icecream we will be missing out on to pay it back since the finance industry refuse to pay. Tell the candidate you support to make the banks pay the bailouts or go to jail. simple as that =) i want my future icecream money back.

Ahhhh, a poster after my own heart! Just love getting in a little political rant in these stupid and pointless articles on AOL! Good one!

I don't know how to react to this. I love mint chocolate chip. (Ben & Jerry's is my favorite, but I'll accept anything else)

I don't know whether I'm now pleased that so many others do or disappointed that I'm not as unique as I thought.

Insert something clever here.

Heh, I was just sitting here thinking the same thing. Always thought I was unique, liking chocolate chip mint (probably because it's not a favorite with friends or relatives), and now I find out it's in the top ten of favorites.

Well if our worst "sin" is mint chocolate chip------we can be assured it would be a better world if everybody was just like we are.
