Vince Young, Bills Reach Deal: Buffalo Agrees To Sign Free Agent QB

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Bills have reached a deal to sign free agent quarterback Vince Young, providing them an established backup and a bona fide threat in their wildcat formations.

The Bills announced the deal on Friday, a little over a week after 2006 NFL rookie of the year worked out for the team at its facility.

General manager Buddy Nix said the addition of Young will create more competition at the backup spot behind starter Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Young, who turns 29 later this month, has been biding his time to determine the next step of his career after he completed his one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles last season. He struggled as Michael Vick's backup last season, finishing with four touchdowns and nine interceptions in six games, including three starts.

He's not a bad pickup considering his salary is probably cheap. My problem with him was that he was the 3rd pick in the draft making a lot of money while be slightly above average.

Sorry Buffalo... Vince Young is a proven bum who peaked in college.

Million dollar body and skills. ten cent head He is still young and can still turn it around. Not many more chances , he has to do it now. Do yourself a favor vince , shut up and play.

wildcat? vince ain't runnin' no wildcat. who wrote this? anyway, VY hs found a decent home in BUF. the bills are super talented and he should fit in w/chan gailie. the eagles were a trainwreck last year. they couldn't get out of their own way. VY needs targets. when he has targets, he hits them. i wish him luck!

He's a problem wherever he goes......good luck with that, Buffalo......

If Vince ever pulls his head outta his butt he just might reach his potential. Interesting pickup for the Bills. Now what happens if he actually does get it together? Open question: What would do with Fitzpatrick?

Good for Vince. He's very talented, and he is maturing.

No he's not. He was awful in every way for the Eagles last year.

He led the best drive of the season vs the (champion) Giants.

What part of talent don't you understand? ( 6'5", runs a 4.6, throws 65 yds...that's talent).

Has an NFL Rookie of the Year, and an NCAA National Championship on his resume. That's not talent?

He's been a winner everywhere he's gone. If he can get things together, the team will go far. He was never a good fit in Tennessee. The coach didn't want him and it showed. His years in the league would have been better if not for that mess that is Jeff Fisher.

If the Bills are willing to re-tool their offense and install Young as their starter they will win their division and have the #1 running back in the league.
If not... he's irrelevant.

Along with the Jets, Bills say they need to create competition at back-up quarterback. At this level, backup QB target should be the starter not the bencher. The $ these guys make should be all the incentive they need.

Hey Buffalo-
If you're still in the market for bad QBs, make ANY reasonable offer for Bad Newz Vick..
Bidding starts at one (1) box of Milk Bonz.

If he can keep his ego under his helmet, he'll make a good backup for Fitzpatrick
10:54 PM on 05/11/2012
He's infinitely better than Fitz. His ego however has always overshadowed his skill.

Did you see him play last year? You couldn't have or you wouldn't make that statement.

Why anyone would want this guy escapes me. He's a terrible qb. If their starter gets hurt, they will be in big trouble.
10:54 PM on 05/11/2012
Terrible? His stats say otherwise.

He had a 60.8 QB rating - one of the worst in the league. That is terrible by anyone's standards. 4 TDs, 9 INTs. You keep posting how great he is but clearly don't have a clue.

Just keep him away from Jeff Fisher and Norm Chow and he"ll be fine. All they did was take a naturally gifted athlete and try to turn him into the QB they wanted, Matt Leinert. They changed all of his mechanics and screwed him up. Yet he was rookie of the year and a proven winner. How'd that work out for them? They both got fired. Fisher will fail at St. Louis because he's a lousy coach and Chow is a member of the job of the month club. As Mack Brown once said, "Just let Vince be Vince."

No kidding. Fish and Chow were more focused on QB technicalities than winning. Mission accomplished.

All Vince Young does is win, but the AFC East is a beast.
