Gingrich To Campaign For Romney In Key State

Newt Gingrich will campaign for Mitt Romney at next week's Georgia state GOP convention, CNN reports.

After dragging out the final days of his 2012 bid, Gingrich finally suspended his presidential campaign May 2. Though it was reported he would embrace Romney's candidacy as he suspended his campaign, Gingrich delayed making an outright endorsement.

“I am asked sometimes, 'is Mitt Romney conservative enough?'” Gingrich said in his exit speech. “My answer is simple -- compared to Barack Obama? This is not a choice between Mitt Romney and Ronald Reagan. This is a choice between Mitt Romney and the most radical, leftist president in American history."

Later, Gingrich said Romney had "earned the right to represent the Republican Party" against Obama. He said the former Massachusetts governor had "fought his way to the nomination" and that "nobody gave him an inch."

Gingrich won the 2012 Georgia GOP primary, with Romney coming in second.
