It's the end of 10 seasons of investigations, pun-filled taglines and best supporting sunglasses on "CSI: Miami" -- CBS has canceled the long-running series.
Star Eva LaRue visited "Live with Kelly" last month to lament the fact that the show didn't get a proper send-off, if that was to be their series finale, after their episode order was cut to 19 to make room for Robert De Niro's rookie cop drama "NYC 22."
"It's not fair, we didn't get to tie it up right," LaRue said. "After 10 seasons, we ended in a bar. That doesn't seem right."
But there you have it -- "CSI: Miami," ending in a bar. CBS sent out this quote with the official announcement:
“'CSI: Miami' leaves an amazing television legacy -– a signature look and style, global popularity and as a key player in CBS’s rise to the top over the past decade. We thank all the producers -– led by Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and Ann Donahue -- and its talented cast, led by David Caruso, for 10 outstanding seasons. Viewers around the world will continue to enjoy rebroadcasts of 'CSI: Miami' in syndication and on key digital platforms for many years to come.”
But with the end of one "CSI" spinoff comes the renewal of the other -- "CSI: NY," which has easily outperformed "CSI: Miami" this season -- will return for a ninth season, with Gary Sinise and Sela Ward at the helm.
Also on the chopping block: "iRob!," the midseason freshman comedy about a gringo out of water with his new wife's Mexican family, starring Rob Schneider and Cheech Marin; "Unforgettable," the "she can remember everything" cop drama starring Poppy Montgomery and Dylan Walsh; and "NYC 22," the Robert DeNiro-produced drama about rookies in the NYPD.
"CSI: Miami," "iRob!," "Unforgettable" and "NYC 22" are joined in the CBS cancellation pool by "A Gifted Man," which was unofficially announced to be over a few months back when star Patrick WIlson tweeted: "I had a great time. Thanks to my fans. So happy it's done." When official word came down (via email, he claims), he took to Twitter again, telling CBS to "stay classy":
This leaves only "Rules of Engagement" still on the bubble at the network.
CBS picked up four new dramas, two new sitcoms and a reality competition from Mark Burnett for the 2012-2013 TV season.
