WATCH: Tornado Touches Down Off Florida Coast

A massive waterspout turned into a tornado as it touched down in Pensacola, Florida Saturday night, and a resident caught the awe-inspiring twister on camera as it churned offshore. ( Watch video of the extreme weather above. )

There were no injuries or reports of structural damage from the tornado, an Escambia County Public Safety supervisor told the Pensacola News-Journal, though several other water spouts were reported over nearby Johnson Beach and a minor league baseball game between the Pensacola Blue Wahoos and Birmingham Barons had to be suspended.

The tornado happened to appear on the 15th anniversary of one of Florida's most memorable twisters, the Great Miami Tornado. Though tornados aren't uncommon in Florida, the May 12, 1997 twister is remembered for being unusually photogenic, producing widely seen dramatic photos. The Great Miami Tornado ripped from Little Havana across Downtown, narrowly missing skyscrapers, before hopping the MacArthur Causeway and traveling up the Venetian Causeway, across Biscayne Bay, and briefly touching down on Miami Beach before dissipating.

Though the twister was eight miles long with winds between 100 to 120 miles per hour, according to NBCMiami, only 5 people were injured.
