Mena Suvari Divorce: Ex Requests $17,000 A Month In Spousal Support

Mena Suvari's ex wants her to pay up.

According to TMZ, Suvari's ex-husband, Simone Sestito, has filed court docs requesting $17,000 a month in spousal support.

Elsewhere in the docs, Sestito -- a concert promoter -- reportedly alleges that "American Reunion" actress makes $750,000 a year and says he's used to eating out "almost everyday at high end restaurants," listing his estimated monthly dining expenses at $3,000 a month.

Suvari, 33, filed to divorce Sestito in January 2012 after 18 months of marriage, citing "irreconcilable differences." Suvari has sought to deny her ex spousal support, TMZ reported.

The "American Beauty" actress' first marriage to Robert Brinkmann, a cinematographer 17 years her senior, ended in 2005 after five years of marriage. In an interview with the Daily Mail last month, Suvari opened up about her two failed marriages: "Honestly, I never thought that at 33 I’d be a two-time divorcee. But OK, if that’s the path my life is going down, then I accept it."

You know what, I read about this thing just the other day....

When going through a divorce after a relatively short marriage, the thing you MUST do, especially if your spouse always paid for your expenses and luxury items, is..... GET A JOB.

No kids? No connection to each other necessary. Time for him to brown-bag-it back to a job.

He's used to eating out at high end restaurants? Maybe he could get used to NOT doing that.

I totally dissagree with spousal support. Ok, unless said spouse helped you get through college or made sacrifices in other areas for you to advance. But even then it should be for a limited time, and definately never so that you can maintain the lifestyle you had with that person, this time without them. Unless business partners, in that case a buy-out, or continued business partnership.

Of course a concert promoter wants more cash than they're worth.

These public requests from men need to be done, repeatedly. It shows that men are being discriminated against when women are allowed to make equal or larger request.
03:06 PM on 05/15/2012
So you want this guy to be the poster boy for mens rights? LOL. I am sure plenty of men get screwed over in cases of income disparity but let's not make THIS situation out to anything more than what it is....a gold digger who claims he gave the "best years of his life" and needs $3k a month just to feed himself. They were married for 18 months, not 18 years.

Please make these requests public. So that ALL can see that no matter who makes the higher wage, they will be taken advantage of by the partner who earns less. Men AND women are guilty of this. Period. Except that women still have to be in charge of cooking, taking care of the kids, and housecleaning.

Men and women who try to put a price tag on the expiration of their marriages give people a small glimpse into a mindset of entitlement that makes it easy to understand how they ended up single in the first place. I don't believe in living like a parasite off of a former spouse, no matter what gender someone is. Unless there are children involved, no one should be supporting another person once divorce has occurred.
09:52 AM on 05/16/2012
Agreed, except in cases where a spouse contributed greatly to the other person's success...for instance, supported them while in school, agreed to raise kids and maintain the home so the spouse could focus solely on their career, etc. In these cases, someone gave up a lot, without pay and it will be difficult for them to recover financially.

"he's used to eating out "almost everyday"

He gave her the best years of his life. He deserves half.

18 months equals "the best years of his life"?

Surely you jest.

He loved her and she tossed him aside. Don’t be a misandrist and denigrate his contributions to their marriage.

MISANDRIST. : a person who hates men

18 months are his best years? He's a golddigger. Even looking at his pictures, it's clear he does not have one iota of ambition or smarts.
03:31 PM on 05/15/2012
I disagree. He must have ambition or smarts to have had her.

For the life of me, I will never understand why women feel they have to get married. And with this crazy "princess culture" we shove down little girls' throats, we can look forward to at least another couple generations of this madness.

Equality can be a bit##, LOL!! But any guy who would take money from a woman (not for children) is not a man in my book.

Except there is still no equality. When a couple gets married, who is the partner whose expected to cook, clean and take of the children?? Equality? No!
04:51 PM on 05/15/2012
Well I got married, my wife took care of the homefront, but she didnt work outside the home. Post divorce, my daughter hasnt seen her mom in years and I still work but also do everything at home, so I still, I guess, havent experienced true equality either.

Fanned you for just not giving up, LOL!
