How much do moms love their smartphones? Let's put it this way: Their husbands have good reason to be jealous. According to a new study about how moms born between 1977 and 1994 use media from Meredith Parents Network 21 percent use their smartphones in the bathroom -- and 12 percent use them during sex. Shopping ranks as the No. 1 way most moms (81 percent) use their smartphones (though it wasn’t clear if they were shopping while having sex).

Social media has become an essential part of moms' lives. Nearly half (44 percent) keep Facebook open on their computer all day, twice as much as last year’s 22 percent. But moms have a love-hate relationship with the social network: 96 percent are concerned about their online privacy, and 55 percent have de-friended companies on Facebook, citing "too many messages and ads" as the top reason.

Why it matters to your business: Saying moms are wedded to their cell phones clearly is not an understatement, which means your business needs to have a presence on that ever-present device. If you haven't already, make sure your website is mobile-friendly and incorporates mobile marketing into your mix. Reach out to moms on Facebook, but don't push it too hard or, as the research shows, you'll push her away.
