Detroit Police Shoot 72-Year-Old Man Allegedly Carrying A Knife

Police Shoot 72-year-old Man

Detroit Police officers shot an elderly man three times Monday night on Detroit's west side, after he charged at them with a knife, they allege.

Officers were responding to a call on the 8600 block of Ohio involving a car parked in the wrong driveway. The vehicle belonged to the next-door neighbor.

When officers knocked on the front door of the neighboring house, they say an older white male charged at them with a knife. Police say they ordered the man to drop the weapon, but he continued to approach them. They then fired shots, injuring him. He was taken to Henry Ford Hospital where he is listed in temporary serious condition.

Police have not released the man's name. They said he was in his 70s, and WXYZ reports he is 72 years old.

The TV station also reports the man had recently suffered a head injury and had been acting confused.
