Discharged Tea Party Marine Takes Birther Turn

Gary Stein, the former Marine discharged for critical comments he made about President Barack Obama on his Tea Party-affiliated Facebook page, is now creating more controversy on the same social network. This time, he appears to have some doubts about the president's birthplace.

From a post earlier this week:

The response on his Facebook page has been mixed. Some people appear to agree with his sentiment, while others have accused him of undermining his message by subscribing to conspiracy theories.

The president, whose long-form birth certificate indicates that he was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, was in California last week for a star-studded fundraiser that brought in around $15 million.

Stein had earlier been outspoken about his opposition to Obama.

"Screw Obama and I will not follow all orders from him," Stein once wrote on Facebook, later clarifying that he would not follow unlawful orders. Stein also referred to the president as the economic enemy, the religious enemy and a "domestic enemy."

But the tilt toward birther conspiracy seems to be a new direction for the former military man.

Since leaving the Marines, Stein has launched a conservative talk radio program that airs weekly.
