Two months after her husband, former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, began serving a 14-year prison sentence for his federal corruption convictions, Patti Blagojevich brought her two daughters to visit their father at the Denver facility.
The famously media-friendly former First Lady of Illinois posted about the trip on her Facebook page, according to the Associated Press:
we spent the weekend in Denver visiting rod. So happy to see us and we were so happy tosee him. That visiting room has to beone of the saddest places on earth, though. All those little kids visiting their dads. It breaks your heart.
Blagojevich, or inmate No. 40892-424, is serving his sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution in Englewood in suburban Denver, where he recently began teaching Shakespeare to inmates after cleaning dishes for a mandatory 90 days.
The former governor requested the low-security Colorado facility in part based on its proximity to an airport, making it more accessible for family visits. It is also reportedly safer than other federal prisons.
Wife Patti Blagojevich has maintained her husband's innocence and has said publicly that she still has faith in their marriage.
