amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala 2012 Will Include Fashion Show Curated By Carine Roitfeld

Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise: black is the new black.

At least that's Carine Roitfeld's message, as the former Vogue Paris editor-in-chief stages an all-black runway show at the Cannes Film Festival. The nineteenth annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala, held during the French film festival, will include a full-scale fashion show this year, reports Women's Wear Daily.

Carine will curate the clothing selection, which will include black pieces by designers such as Versace, Alexander Wang, Balenciaga, Chanel, Givenchy, Roberto Cavalli, Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton and Christopher Kane.

That's a lot of black, particularly from designers like Kane and Cavalli who favor bright colors and animal prints. But Carine is fashion's queen of noir, after all -- we imagine she'll be the one to scoop up all the pieces when they're auctioned off after the runway show.

Plus no celebs would have any use for them at the film festival itself. As you can see from our "greatest hits" of Cannes fashion below, the Riviera generally inspires bright, summery red carpet hues... in other words, utterly un-Carine.
