This weekend marks the second annual Pablove Shutterbugs Gallery show -- a "graduation" celebration for young cancer patients who have been paired with well-known photographers for eight weeks of photography lessons.
The gallery show and auction, which take place on May 19, will feature the students' photography as well as celebrity photos which have been donated by Julius Shulman, Diane Keaton, Herb Ritts, Moby, Todd Hido, Bruce Davidson, Mike and Doug Starn, Matthew Brandt, Mona Kuhn, Alia Malley, Jeffrey Milstein, Mitch Dobrowner and more.
The Huffington Post had the chance to catch up with professional photographer Graham John Bell, who has been a mentor for the Shutterbugs since September 2011. When thinking about the healing or cathartic qualities photography has for children, Bell said, "Photography has the power to freeze a split second in time. When you start to explain that to young people you see the light bulbs go off and they are on a mission. This enables them, if they wish, to remove themselves outside of their current situation and play with those split seconds on their terms."
