The Best Milk Chocolate: Our Taste Test Results

First Posted: 11/02/2011 10:35 am   Updated: 08/31/2012 10:48 am

Listen up, chocoholics. In search of the best of the best milk chocolate bar, we decided to put 30-plus different kinds to the test. We scored the bars in a blind taste test to find which ones are worth it and which aren't.

We tasted bars that ranged in price from $0.49 to $5.99, and we were shocked to learn that the cheapest of the bunch was the biggest crowd-pleaser. And though each of the bars was a perfectly acceptable snack that none of us would turn away, our taste buds got down to the nitty gritty to detect the smallest flavor notes and textural details that separated the best from the worst.

Check out the results below, and find out how your favorites performed -- we've included the brands we'd be in favor of buying (though not all of our tasters agree on everything!). We were surprised by the results (especially by where the classic Hershey bar ranked), and we think you will be, too.

* If you're wondering what differentiates milk chocolate from dark chocolate, milk chocolate is defined as containing approximately 30 to 40 percent cocoa solids, whereas dark chocolate uses at least 60 percent cocoa solids.

I was thinking the same thing! Cadbury's beats Hershey's by MILES any day!!!

Hershey symphony is better than classic Hershey. You should have added that one too.

I agree with the tasters. Dove has been my favorite milk chocolate ever since I first tried it years ago. Silky and smooth. It used to come in little foil wrappers inside a bag. Hershey has a weird taste IMO. I also like lindt and guirardelli. I don't know most of the other ones but want to try them now.

Are you kidding me? Hershey's is terrible for a chocolate bar. It has a vomit aftertaste and is tremendously sweet. At least replace it with MIlka, which is pretty decent for a chocolate bar.

Sorry. Ghirardelli should have taken the top spot!

Well I am not sure exactly who "we" is or what their taste buds got out of it that others might not, but first of all I've never heard of a lot of those so I cannot say.

Dove does not do it for me. Sorry.

But my favorite which was not mentioned at all is See's. Yeah I know, "what a mall outfit?"

I love their milk chocolate. To me it has the right texture, taste, not overly sweet and tastes exactly how I feel a great milk chocolate should.

However, like I said, having never heard of a lot of those, until I get samples sent to me "hint hint hint HP". I cannot give my exceptionally valuable opinion.

Soooo cough up HP.

It's Godiva with raspberry ice cream. The chocolate flavor but I will easily it gharilladi,Hershey's and dans chocholate truffles. In fact truffles are the best. Also Mexican mole which is chocolate mixed with around thirty different ingredients is great also. When it comes to chocholate it's hard to go wrong.http://thebarbecuemaster.net/chocolate-and-BBQ.html

I can eat chocolate with anything and use end up with a belly ache after eating half the box of milk chocolate but it is so good
