Bill DeWeese Out On Bail Days After Beginning Prison Term For Corruption

Bill Deweese Out On Bail
ormer longtime Pennsylvania House Democratic leader Bill DeWeese is out on bail.

PHILADELPHIA — Former longtime Pennsylvania House Democratic leader Bill DeWeese is out on bail days after he began serving a 2 1/2 -to-five-year prison term for corruption.

A spokesman for the State Correction Institution in Camp Hill confirmed late Friday that DeWeese was released on bail.

DeWeese had reported to Dauphin County Prison in Harrisburg on Monday to begin his sentence.

The former Greene County lawmaker served in the House for 35 years, including two years as speaker.

In February, a jury convicted DeWeese of conspiracy, conflict of interest and three counts of theft for using public resources for political purposes. He kept his House seat for more than two months because the constitutional ban on felons serving as legislators is not triggered until they are sentenced.

Something is missing from this story. You know, facts, details, reporting - minor journalism stuff.

I agree totally. But we are dealing with Huffington, they never let the facts or lack of get in the way of thier articles. What was the basis for being released on bail. Was his conviction overturned and a new trial ordered. Why wasn't he on bail while he was awaiting the start of his prision term. Sounds like more of the same old BS where politicans are held to a lesser standard than the rest of us. Inf fact, come to think of it, Politicans have no standard, no ethics, and certainly no morals.

"It is inconsistent with the principles of civil liberty, and contrary to the natural rights of the other members of the society, that any body of men therein should have authority to enlarge their own
powers... without restraint." --Thomas Jefferson: Virginia Allowance Bill, 1778.

All the men mentioned in this article are attorneys. They lie, cheat and steal at will to pad their pockets. They are all friends with each other and will vehemnently accuse each other in the courtroom so that you think they are mortal enemies. The courtroom to them is a stage and they try to be the smartest actor and win the case.

This is our justice system today. The Attorney General is not qualified to be the general over a latrine. It startes with his boss and goes on down the line. Many politicians are attorneys also. So, why would you not expect them to cover for each other and bail each other out? (using the laws they wrote, of course)

It' a very sad state of affairs when we settle for this shameful level of leadership. The normal citizen is held to the higher standard and the inmates run the asylum.
