Lewis Eisenberg, the Florida co-chairman of Mitt Romney's presidential campaign, told The Huffington Post on Wednesday, "In the current atmosphere, the administration has made bankers, and anyone associated with the investment industry, a villain."
He went on to say that President Barack Obama has "turned the 1 percent and the bankers against Main Street."
Eisenberg is a former partner at Goldman Sachs and currently works as a senior adviser at a private equity firm. He made a $25,000 donation to Restore Our Future, a super PAC supporting Romney. Eisenberg also made the maximum donation allowed, $30,400, to the Republican National Committee, he told HuffPost over the phone.
Eisenberg believes there have been "a significant number of times when it's a 'we/they' situation, and it's Main Street against Wall Street. And that's not really the way it is."
When pressed on the issue of financial regulation, Eisenberg said, "I happen to agree with Romney. I don't think he's against regulation; he's for the right regulation." He continued, "I'm not sure we have the right regulation."
Romney has said that the Dodd-Frank financial reform bill was created by "the wrong guys" at "the wrong time."
In addition to his personal donations, Eisenberg has hosted and participated in many fundraisers to benefit the Republican presidential hopeful in both Florida and New York.
Eisenberg said he couldn't provide an estimate of how much money he has helped raise for Romney's campaign. The Romney campaign did not respond to HuffPost's request for comment about Eisenberg's fundraising.
Eisenberg is an experienced fundraiser who was finance chairman for the Republican National Committee in 2004. He served as finance chairman for Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign in 2008.
The Huffington Post spoke with him as part of its ongoing series of visits to the famed "Power Breakfast" at Manhattan's Loews Regency Hotel.
