Too much fructose in many of these recommendations.

If you're doing low-intensity (aerobic activity: if you can maintain a pace for min on end, it's not high-intensity no matter how "hard" you think it is) you're going to be burning largely fat in any case, and will do well having a fatty snack pre- or post-, not saying avoid carbs entirely, but if you're doing a 5k jog some nuts are a better choice than say an apple.

If you're doing high-intensity, glycogen depleting activities, you want starchy carbs, not sweet, fructose filled carbs.
