Tonya Thomas is accused of fatally shooting her four children before taking her own life.

A Florida mother shot her four children 18 times before taking her own life, according to the Brevard County medical examiner's findings.

In the early morning of May 15, 33-year-old Tonya Thomas fired bullets at two of her children's chests from short distances in the alleged murder-suicide massacre in Port St. John, USA Today reported. Authorities have not reported on the circumstances surrounding the shooting of Thomas' other two children during the incident.

Authorities say that Thomas used a Taurus .38-caliber revolver to kill Joel Johnson, 12, Jazzlyn Johnson, 13, Jaxs Johnson, 15, and Pebbles Johnson, 17.

According to the initial Associated Press report:

Three of the children had gone to a neighbor's front door before dawn to say their mother had shot them. The mother then called the children back to the house and killed them, [Lt. Tod Goodyear, a spokesman for the Brevard County Sheriff's Office] said.

"From what the neighbors said, she was very calm. She walked out and called them back. They turned around and walked back to the house," Goodyear said.

On Wednesday, police released the 911 call from neighbors in which witnesses recall hearing gunshots and seeing Thomas' children outside their home.

I just looked at the pictures of the children and tears are spilling over my lids. You think - "How horrible" but then you look at their pictures and you really think "Dear God, how horrible." Those poor, poor children. It is so sad that we have to study cases of women - or anyone - who kills children because it just shouldn't happen.

Such a depressing story. The children were probably in disbelief that their mother shot them, that's why they went back. Soo sad no one ever thinks that their own mother would shoot them its so sad.

I don't know why this lady killed her kids, but it seems that many women with multiple kids have killed their children in the last few years. I could only imagine how overwhelming it must be to have so many, so why have them in the first place? Nobody told her to bring these kids into the world and now they are gone. So sad!

Sad?? For the children, of course. A travesty of justice that we don't a chance to torture and kill the sorry excuse for a mother. She will burn in h_ll forever.

If parents continue with these murder-suicide massacres, much of the next generation of children will be wiped out.

If my mother shot me and then called me back I would have had to disrespecked her or that one till I knew it was safe. AND the grown folk next door let them go back???!!! When I came up we looked out for each other and their kids. Sorry to hear things have gotten this bad. I will pray for them and the family.

...........and the kids went back to the house WHY? And the neighbors let them? WHY? And why do we allow people in the USA to havee guns? I don't get this................i am so glad the murderer killed herself, saves the taxpayers money arresting her and taking her to court.

Maybe Sharpton or Jesse could start preaching about not having baby after baby starting when you are 16 like her or younger. How many fathers were there? No male figure around to help raise them. This is what the so called leaders of the black community should be doing but they never will. That would mean holding people accountable for their own decisions in life. And who always suffers? The children or their future crime victims.

Bill Cosby brought it up on more than one occasion and got slapped down for it.

Truth isn't popular.

Very sorry for the children. However, they didnt have much for survival instincts. What child would go back so their mom could finish killing them?

almost every child maybe? It's easy in hindsight, as an adult, to say that. Imagine being a child?

No way I would have listened. When I was a kid I ran from my step father many times when I knew he wanted to hit me.

Stern parenting.. I bet these kids were straight A students to obey their mother in this starkest of terms, A terrible situation for these incredibly obedient kids. The neighbor who let them return is sure to be visited my nightmares of what could have happened for the rest of their lives.

My first thought when reading this news article title: What?!? Who does such a thing?!

My thoughts after reading the first three words..."A Florida mother": Oh, yeah...that's who would do such a thing.

What? I'm confused... why, if the children said that their mother shot them, would the neighbor let them go back to her? Also why would the children voluntarily go back? Sad...

Mental illness and friends, family, and neighbors living in denial strikes again. But then again, with so many places that help the mentally ill closing or too expensive what can we expect? There'll be another sad headline tomorrow :-(

The pastor said the child doing domestic violence and destruction was normal, unfortunately going on the original article, the mother was the victim of abuse from her 15 yr old, the other boys were on their way to being future criminals when they shot at a house acrossed the street and threatening to burn it. I think if this mother found the right help for her children we may not be reading this article.
