Jennifer Grey Talks 'Dirty Dancing' On 25th Anniversary

Jennifer Grey Talks 'Dirty Dancing' 25th Anniversary

Twenty-five years ago "Dirty Dancing" hit the big screen, and star Jennifer Grey can't believe that the film is as popular today as when it premiered in 1987. She jokes that nobody puts Baby in a corner now -- unless she wants a corner table at a restaurant.

In 2010 Grey showed that she still had the moves when she won "Dancing With the Stars." But, she told me, the experience was a dangerous gig.

“I try to dance as much as I can now because since I won 'Dancing With the Stars' I realized I had never danced all those years between 'Dancing With the Stars' and 'Dirty Dancing,'” Grey said, adding that her victory was a miracle.

"It almost killed me," she said. "I had injuries before. Right before I started, they found out I had cancer. I had a thyroid surgery and had my neck fused, then I did the show that year. And during the show, I ruptured my disk in my freestyle the next morning. I was in the hospital that night I won and literally had surgery the week later -- and then foot surgery since the show.”

This summer, Grey is planning to participate in series of events around the country, where people will have the chance to watch the iconic movie on the big screen for free.

“It’s very bittersweet that Patrick Swayze isn’t around anymore," she said. "It feels weird to be doing this by myself. You realize that life is short,” she added. "And that is why I’m here. I believe we have to have more joy in our lives and we have to live every day as fully as we can.”
