Larry Cornelius Stephens Allegedly Sends Child, 6, To School With Drugs And Scale

Kindergartner's Show And Tell Leads To Dad's Arrest

Larry Cornelius Stephens, 25, was arrested after sending his child to school in St. Petersburg, Fla. with more than 89 grams of marijuana, blunts, and a scale in the child's backpack, according to a Pinellas County Sheriff's Office arrest affidavit.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, Stephens’ kindergartener, a student at Campbell Park Elementary Marine Science Center, discovered the items in the backpack. The child showed the items to a teacher, saying, "Look what I got!" before the teacher called the police.

Shortly after, Stephens returned to the school to get the drugs back, police report, claiming he uses it to "take care of his business."

"He's innocent, man, simple mistake, man. Gave someone a ride last night, and that's it. The bookbag was left in the car and that was it," a cousin told First Coast News.

Officers note on the arrest report that Stephens admitted that the marijuana was his own.

Tuesday's booking was the father's ninth trip to the Pinellas County Jail. His other arrests involved cocaine and marijuana charges, domestic battery, and carrying a concealed weapon.

ABC Action News reports that the 6 year old is now under the care of his mother.

This isn’t the first time a child unknowingly brought drugs to school. In Louisville, Ky. a father sent his three young daughters to school with hydrocodone pills and a baggie with a powdery substance.

In Pennsylvania, an 8-year-old was discovered handing out packets of heroin to his classmates.
