Florida Crossing Guard, Adriana Allen, Returns $1,800 Found In ATM Machine

Crossing Guard Returns $1,800 Found In ATM

Someone has 1,800 reasons to say "thank you" to Adriana Allen after the Florida woman returned the $1,800 in cash she found hanging out of an ATM machine at a Chase bank, Fox News reports.

The 46-year-old school crossing guard from Boca Raton said she found $1,800 in cash dangling from the deposit slot of a drive-through ATM over the weekend.

The bank was closed and no other cars were around.

But instead of pinching the money and making a run for it, Allen tried to push the money back into the slot. When it wouldn't budge, she called 911, the Sun Sentinel reports.

"It's a good story," Police Department spokeswoman Stephanie Slater said. "This woman is a great example of what you should do."

The owner of the money has yet to be found. However, Chase bank and local police are working together to find the forgetful customer.

Melissa Sheffield, a spokesperson for Chase, said the bank has no plans to offer Allen a reward but if the money is not claimed within a certain time period it becomes her property, guilt-free.

Allen, who came to United States from Cuba 23 years ago and has a young son, told Fox news that she has no desire for a reward and said she is baffled by the attention her good deed has received.

"I don't think I'm a hero," she said. "That's the way I was brought up. I believe in God, and I believe what goes around comes around, and that's the way it is. If you don't earn it, and it's not yours, give it back."
