Injured Groom, Jamie McKechnie, Vows To Walk Down The Aisle On Wedding Day

Most brides and grooms don't even think twice about being able to walk down the aisle on their wedding day.

But walking is all 25-year-old UK groom Jamie McKechnie is thinking about.

In August 2011, McKechnie was left with just a 30 percent chance to live after he was brutally assaulted in a nighttime attack at a railway station. Following the attack, McKechnie -- a former handyman and BMX rider -- had to relearn how to move his limbs, talk and even laugh because of the brain damage he suffered, according to the London Evening Standard.

Despite all of the progress that he has made within the past year, McKechnie is still wheelchair-bound. But that hasn't changed his plans to walk down the aisle to marry his fiancee, 26-year-old Ellen Murphy, who proposed to him in February.

In fact, McKechnie told the London Evening Standard that despite his current condition, he's determined to walk on his Big Day. "I just want to walk down the aisle, I don’t want her to have to push me," he said.

Murphy is completely supportive of McKechnie's plans, even though it might mean pushing the date of their nuptials back. “I had always thought about getting married because you know when you’re with ‘the one’, but seeing him so close to the end made me think what would I have done if I’d lost him," she told the London Evening Standard.

We'll keep you updated on McKechnie's story and report back when the couple ties the knot.
