I celebrated my 50th birthday in the Peace Corps. The average age in my group was 46 and the oldest was 71. It isn't your fathers Peace Corps anymore. At my age, I had some experience to share and a broader world view than a recent college graduate. I think I made a contribution but I have to confess that I learned far more than I taught. I am now 69 and I would happily do another stint with the Peace Corps but maybe I will wait until I'm a little older and wiser, say 75. Serving your country in whatever capacity is a great experience and I heartily recommend service at any age. Peace Corps service is an excellent way to serve your country, broaden your horizons and round out a career with epiphany like exposure to how the rest of the world lives.
