Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
Teenagers with superpowers? Uh oh. Luckily this team uses their various powers for good, and not evil. (All Photos Courtesy of Teletoon Retro)
Batman's popularity has skyrocketed in the past decade (but has it ever really gone away?), especially with so many feature films. An interesting back-story, a Batcave, and the frikkin' Batmobile all help make Batman one of the more fascinating cartoon superheroes.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Everyone has a soft spot in their hearts for the Turtles. They're funny, genuine and caring, but they can also kick some butt, whether it's the Foot Clan or Krang they're facing.
The sweetest of all the Care Bears, Tenderheart seeks to spread love, happiness and caring among all of his friends. He's a very noble fellow.
Don't be fooled by his short furry underwear -- He-Man is possibly the strongest man in the universe! With his team of close friends (Man-At-Arms, Cringer, Orko), he's pretty much unstoppable when he faces enemies like Skeletor.
My Pet Monster
He may not be fighting aliens or saving the world from imminent destruction, but Monster was a hero to his owner, Max. He was also instrumental in keeping the evil Beastur (his nemesis) confined to Monsterland.
Papa is the lynchpin of the Smurfs, and is responsible for all decisions made by the Smurf Village (Communism ahoy!). He is kind and compassionate, but can put his foot down when he wants to.
Like her twin brother He-Man, She-Ra possesses many abilities, including great strength and proficiency with a sword. She can also communicate with animals and has an incredible level of empathy. She-Ra is groundbreaking in that little girls finally have someone to look up to.
Peter Parker (aka Spider-Man) is the most self-doubting, flawed hero out there -- yet he manages to fight crime and save the girl despite it all. He's also got the major cool factor going on; who wouldn't love to swing across the city by silky spider threads?
Young boy reporter Tintin deals with some pretty serious issues; also an adventurer, he travels around the world with his canine companion, Snowy. He spends his time solving crimes and mysteries.
Sure, other Transformers may be more heroic, but Bumblebee has his strengths. His small size makes him able to reach places the bigger Autobots can't, which is very useful in their fight against the Decepticons.
Who is the greatest superhero of them all? Batman? He-Man? The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? In the world of retro cartoons, there are certainly a lot of candidates.
Teletoon Retro seeks the answers to these questions by inviting viewers to vote for their favourite cartoon do-gooders in the Teletoon Retro Hall of Fame Top 5 Heroes campaign. Starting Monday, May 28 and running until Sunday, June 17, viewers can vote for the heroes they hold in the highest regard. (Some nominees are in the slideshow above -- you can vote there too!)
Once the votes have been tallied, fans will find out who was chosen to save the day when the Top 5 Heroes are announced on Tuesday, June 26.
A special programming marathon featuring the winners will air as part of the “Retro Rewind” programming block on Sunday, July 1 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. ET.
