An 8-year old girl was stabbed in the neck on Tuesday morning at 144-67 176th Street in the Springfield Gardens neighborhood of Queens.

NY1 reports the girl, Briana Davis, was taken to Jamaica Hospital and is in critical condition.

The girl's mother, 44-year old Ann Carimbocas, has been taken into custody. Carimbocas is reportedly visiting from Haiti.

Update: Police Commissioner Ray Kelly told reporters that at the time of the incident, a man was inside the home and intervened, holding Carimbocas from continuing to stab Davis until police arrived onto the scene.

A neighbor told The Daily News Davis was flailing her arms as she was hurried to an ambulance. "When they brought her out, she was bloodied up in sheets," the neighbor said. "One of the EMTs came out and said, ‘Hurry up, hurry up. It’s a baby.'"
