Christian Bale, 'Dark Knight Rises' Star, On Playing Batman: 'That's F--king Cool'

'That's F--king Cool': Christian Bale Talks 'Dark Knight Rises'

Christian Bale dons his Batman costume one last time in "The Dark Knight Rises," but despite the fact that the famed suit looks mighty uncomfortable, the 38-year-old actor is going to miss playing dress up.

"You know, for all the kind of discomfort, and all the heat and the sweat and the headaches and everything from it, when you sit back and watch the movie at the end of the day you end up going, 'That’s f--king cool!'" he told a scrum of journalists on the "Dark Knight Rises" set in Pittsburgh last summer. "So, I will. I will miss it."

Director Christopher Nolan has kept much of his Batman finale under wraps, but during last year's set visit, Bale was certainly in a talkative mood. While he didn't give away any big plot points ("I think let’s leave that one until you see the movie," he said when asked about Batman's relationship with Catwoman), Bale did candidly discuss his contractual obligations to the franchise.

"I knew it was gonna happen for me because I was contracted to do it, so I didn’t really have a choice," he said about returning for the third film in Nolan's trilogy. "I would’ve been sued up the yin-yang, and I’d be on the street and penniless if I hadn’t have done it."

Not that Bale is upset with having to return.

"It’s good!" he said about Batman's "Dark Knight Rises" character arc.
