Dip Recipes: 24 Ideas For Classics And New Twists

When the weather warms up we know it means a number of things. The days will slowly become longer and longer, making the evenings easier to enjoy; many casual gatherings with friends and families are to be had; and we'll eat dips, lots and lots of dips. There's no better type of dish to turn to when you want to sit back with your loved ones. They require very little cooking (it will soon be too hot to turn on those ovens anyway); and they can often times be made days in advance, allowing you to relax and enjoy the people and food around you.

Cream cheese and a little bit of parmesan make this dip nice and rich. And depending on how you like it, you can keep the artichoke hearts chunky or chop them more finely.

Take one bar of Phillie cream cheese (softened), 1 16-oz container of sour cream, 1 large jar of dried beef (chopped fine; can be found near the canned tuna), and one bunch of scallions (cleaned and chopped 3/4 way up the green). Mix and let set for 30 minutes.

Sooo yummy. Great dip with veggies, excellent schmear for a bagel, wonderful on a baked potato.

I have been loving white bean puree for awhile now and my addition would be adding, in addition to the garlic that was purred along with the beans, lemon or lime juice and any fresh herb, currently I'm into fresh dill, and lots of it, along with a bit of diced celery. Crunch is good! I also love to add cilantro pesto or basil pesto, as well. I would live on this stuff if I could, I eat it for breakfast on toast....

we love this black bean and pineapple salsa at our house. I like it with chips and my husband tops pulled pork tacos with it. You can find the recipe here: http://momonaveggiemission.com/2012/06/02/black-bean-and-pineapple-salsa/

My favorite salsa recipe has to be my dad's. It's very simple and tastes best with garden fresh veggies. I never use exact measurements. I usually just eyeball it, so the amounts don't have to be exact.
4-5 Roma tomatoes
about 1/4 of a white onion
half of a green bell pepper
1 jalapeno (seeded)
1-2 tablespoons of lemon juice
a handful of cilantro (be generous)
salt & pepper to taste
Mix all ingredients in a blender to desired consistancy (I prefer my salsa chunky). I find it's best to let it sit overnight in the fridge. It brings out the flavor of the cilantro. For guacamole, just add a couple avocados.

I've also been making a nice tzatziki lately with a recipe I found on Offbeathome.com. It goes great with veggies, chips, crackers, or in a gyro.
•1 cup greek yogurt
•1/3 cucumber, grated
•1 tsp. crushed or minced garlic
•1 tbsp. lemon juice
•1 tsp. lemon zest
•Salt and pepper to taste
Just mix all ingredients.

I don't have a picture of my favorite dip to upload, but the recipe is so easy I don't have to look it up:

8 oz cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 cup green olives, chopped
1/2 cup pecans, chopped fine

Mix it up, refridgerate for awhile to let it blend, then take it out about 1/2 hour before serving to soften up a little (I add a little olive juice if it's too thick). Serve it with bread, pita chips or veggies. It sounds like a weird mix but it is delicious and addictive. People just stand over the bowl eating it.

It does sound weird, but I'll have to try making it! These recipes all look great, and you can really never have too many go-to dip recipes, especially during cookout season. My contribution is another cream cheese based dip:

8 oz cream cheese, softened
1 cup sour cream
1 cup salsa (jarred or fresh)
1 cup shredded cheese (I use monterey jack & cheddar, any will do, even the "taco cheese" blends)
fresh ground black pepper to taste
chile powder to taste
cayenne pepper to taste

Mix and refrigerate for about an hour before serving so the flavors can get to know each other. I usually serve it in a hollowed-out sourdough boule, but it goes well with anything.

That one sounds good too-- I'll have to try it! I love black olives so I might add those too. Thanks!
