Organizers behind this year's Taste of Chicago have announced that 15 additional restaurants will be debuted at the festival in a new "pop-up" format, allowing each eatery a single-day showcase without the current $3,000 per-appearance price tag.
This new element is one of many changes facing the staple summer event, which has been shortened to five days instead of the usual 10 and will charge festival-goers admission to see headlining musical events for the first time.
Chicagoans may find that change particularly painful with the news that Luke James, Calexico and other groups will open for the show's headliners, which include Death Cab For Cutie, Chaka Khan and Chicagoan Jennifer Hudson, according to ABC Chicago.
The "pop-up" restaurants will each have one day to sling their best dishes, and were chosen by representatives from the WTTW show "Check, Please!" according to the Chicago Tribune. All are Taste of Chicago first-timers, and three will be featured each day.
