WASHINGTON -- With much of the D.C. region under the risk of severe weather, the National Weather Service issued tornado, severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings Friday evening for parts of Maryland and Virginia.
Around 10 p.m., the back edge of a long line of storms was pushing through the District of Columbia and into the Baltimore area from northern Virginia and north-central Maryland.
Earlier, severe storms capable of producing tornadoes pushed through the D.C. area and prompted tornado warnings for many counties across the region, including Prince George's County, Anne Arundel County, Baltimore County, Harford County and Frederick County in Maryland.
Severe funnel cloud sightings were reported, according to Capital Weather Gang, which noted that the "nature of this event is evolving from a tornado threat into a flash flooding threat."
Via Capital Weather Gang, the National Weather Service reported that tree debris associated with a tornado was observed by tower personnel at Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall Airport.
