Craft Of The Day: An Easy Lampshade Makeover

An Easy Way To Update A Lampshade

Take an ordinary lampshade from boring to outstanding with this Craft Of The Day from The Handmade Home. Instead of splurging on a designer shade, take some pretty fabric and dress up a plain one, giving you high style for less. Choose a textured or patterned fabric, or even a bold color that will really pop in your space. Ready to turn that shade into something spectacular? Keep reading for the how-to.

What You'll Need:
One lamp shade (of your choice)
Scissors
Fabric (of your choice)
Trim (optional)
Fabric flowers or ball trim (optional)
Hot glue gun

How to Make It:
1. First cut the fabric into long strips. For a more textured look, you can tear the fabric instead, fraying the edges.
2. Cut the strips into lengths so they are long enough to cover the shade top to bottom. Leave a little extra length so the strips will wrap under the shade.
3. Lay each strip on the lampshade vertically. Using a hot glue gun, carefully glue them to the inside of lampshade at the top and bottom, slightly overlapping each strip.
4. Finally for extra flair, use a hot glue gun to add adornments, such as ball trim or fabric flowers.
