The chemical acetone has many time-tested handy properties. It's commonly used as nail polish remover. It forms the backbone of many household cleaning agents. It's even a paint thinner.

One woman in Tampa, however, reportedly used the organic compound in a more destructive manner -- to set fire her husband on fire.

Around 11 p.m. Saturday night, Idalmis De Armas, 40, allegedly poured the liquid chemical on her husband's upper arm and shorts. She then set the substance -- and her hapless spouse -- aflame with a cigarette lighter.

As a result of the alleged arson attempt, the husband suffered severe burns to his arm, but did not seek medical treatment, according to My Fox Orlando.

De Armas allegedly confessed that she committed the assault to the cops on the scene, the Tampa Bay Times reported. However, she still allegedly resisted arrest, clenching her fists to make it more difficult for cops to handcuff her.

De Armas has been charged in Hillsborough County with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and resisting an officer without violence.

Authorities did not release the husband's name. The couple reportedly live at home with their two children.

Despite the novelty of De Armas' choice of lighter fluid, women have been committing husband arson for years. In June 2009, Esther Hershko admitted to breaking into her estranged husband's home and setting him on fire with accelerant, according to ABC. In April 2012, Shriya Biman Patel was charged with dousing her husband with gasoline before setting him aflame, ultimately inflicting second- and third-degree burns, KXAN reported.
