Union membership and strength has been in decline for decades. In some ways the still function as they have for the past 100 years. Rightwing attacks on public (and private) sector unions threatens to hasten their decline. To ensure their long term survival unions have to reexamine what they really do, how they do it what service they provide to their rank and file and determine what their future existence should look like in economic and political environments that have and contue to change.

There are many who whold perceptions that unions currently only exist to serve their own interest and survival. If unions don't come up with a realistic paradigm and strategy that enables them to better serve their membership they will not survive.

Bad enough that the DEMOCRATIC national convention is being held in a right-to work state and using scab labor....NO help in WISCONSIN.., NO help in Las Vegas,,,,, sitting this election out ,and won't lift a finger for this election.... no union vote or money.....HILLARY 2016

For as much as I like her, it wouldn't be any different with Hillary. Good luck sitting the electiom out. Just remember that if O loses in 2012, there's no guarantee that the White House will even be viable again until 2020. Meanwhile under a republican aministration if the economy is forced into another downturn, (and the Paul Ryan will cause it) unions will become far weakers - private and public.

We are just so sick of the MEDIA saying what can Hurt, the MEDIA would say the PRESIDENT WILL BE HURT FOR GETTING UP in the Morning and WALKING ON THE SIDE- WALK HE will be hurt for being Black, this is all we always see this can hurt the President.

To the Los Angele Times, what will ever hurt ROMNEY? It's always what will hurt President Obama, while you Pander, and Cover up ROMNEY Dirty little Secrets, but you never fail to attack the PRESIDENT.
