Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) Heads To Harlem For Apollo Show

He's come a long way from the streets of Brooklyn.

Homegrown hero Yasiin Bey (otherwise known as Mos Def), one of the most unique and talented performers in hip-hop and Hollywood, is making a triumphant return to New York to perform at the world-famous Apollo Theater next week in a show produced by Jill Newman Productions.

Lately, Bey has been inspiring a new generation of fans with his freestyle verses on top of radio singles. And he's reportedly working with longtime collaborator Talib Kweli to resurrect their critically-acclaimed late-90s group Black Star. He has also been actively involved in charity efforts tied to the Gulf oil spill - recording a cover of classic New Orleans song, "It Ain't My Fault," with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band in 2010.
