Friday night's "Rock of Ages" premiere brought a flash of rock spirit to the red carpet as stars, including Malin Ackerman, Tom Cruise and Russell Brand, came out to debut the hot new flick.
It's been awhile since we've seen Zeta-Jones working the red carpet (she's been to an award show or two, but can you remember the last time she premiered a movie?), and the 42-year-old actress certainly wanted to make a comeback statement with her choice of frock, opting for a gravity-defying hemline in a Zuhair Murad Fall 2012 one-sleeve cocktail dress. (Eagle-eyed fashionistas might recall that Jennifer Lopez wore a full-length version of the dress to the American Music Awards in 2011.)
And on the other side of the red carpet, her 23-year-old co-star Julianne Hough made a foray into chartreuse (one of our fave colors) in a Kaufmanfranco citrine silk crepe dress and a messy top-knot.
But, let's break it down: both of these dresses are kind of missing the mark for us. Zeta-Jones' frock seems a little stuffy and too high-glam for a rock movie premiere, and the color washes her out, no? And Hough's dress is ill-fitting; while we dig the sexy cutouts, we suspect it's the bias cut of the dress that gives her gorgeous figure a less-than-sleek fit.
Check out the dresses below and tell us in the comments: do you think Julianne and Catherine missed the mark?
